Saint Patrick’s Day Party
Saint Party’s Day!
Are you celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day this year? We certainly will be. Whether you’re throwing a party or attending one, here are a few green details to kick it up a notch. In this post you’ll find a DIY photo backdrop that’s cheap and easy to make… about $30 and 2 hours of time. PLUS, we’ve created a deliciously green drink that will elevate your green game. We love the color green. Fancy boozy drinks are our jam. Bringing our friends together to celebrate any occasion is what we live for. This Pot of Gold Backdrop and Lucky Punch combo is sure to be a big hit!
DIY Pot of Gold Backdrop
The 4-colored paper backdrop is a really cute modern design that will take your party from fine to fantastic. You can set up a Polaroid station or encourage your guests to take photos with their phones. This particular backdrop is great for Boomerangs, GIFs, and videos since part of its charm lies in the movement of the backdrop itself. The paper loops bob and undulate back and forth, creating a dynamic and ever-changing backdrop for the photos. This backdrop was adapted from the ever creative folks over at Oh Happy Day.
- card stock (we used about 44 sheets of 8.5 x 11”)
- sewing machine
- hot glue gun
- four medium-sized binder clips
Cut card stock into 11” strips. We cut six strips, 1.8″ wide, out of each sheet of paper.
Sew the paper strips together, leaving a gap between each piece of paper. We made our chains 5′ long and did a total of 7 chains.
Using a small amount of hot glue, glue the ends of the paper strips together to make loops. Use the binder clips to keep the ends connected tightly for a minute, until the glue cools, hardens, and sets.
Hang your chains with tape on the wall, curtain rod, or backdrop stand kit.
Lucky Punch White Wine and Tequila Sangria
We have been so lucky to have a few sunny days here at the Oh So Vivant headquarters, they’ve got us feeling fresh and in the mood for spring! This punch is a great early spring drink. It’s refreshing, and packs a subtle punch of flavor, being both fruity and frothy, with a beautiful green color. Keeping all things green in mind we decided that honeydew, kiwi, basil, lime, and jalapeño sounded like an incredible combination! If you don’t like spice, no problem — leave the jalapeños out, it’s still delicious.
- 1 honeydew melon – cubed
- 1 (750 ml) bottle white wine (we used a chardonnay)
- ¼ cup simple syrup
- ¾ cup tequila
- 3 kiwis – peeled and sliced
- 3 limes – 1 sliced, 2 squeezed
- 1 jalapeño – half sliced, half blended with the other ingredients
- 1 cup club soda or seltzer water
- 1 handful of fresh basil – retain a couple leaves for garnish
Add ¾ of the melon, ¼ cup of the white wine, most of the basil, and half the jalapeño. Blend on high for 2 minutes. Transfer the puree to a large punch bowl.
Stir in the remaining white wine, tequila and simple syrup. We made our simple syrup with raw sugar and finished it off with some vanilla extract.
Add the kiwi slices, lime slices and the remaining cubed honeydew melon.
Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours.
Serve and garnish! Divide into glasses, making sure to add a few pieces of fruit to each glass and top with club soda. Stir and add fresh basil and a lime wedge, if desired.
The jalapeño adds a little bit of kick to this cocktail. If you like things spicy kick it up by adding more of the pepper, and if you don’t like any spice, get that jalapeño out of there!
